Council approves one-year pilot Busker / Street Performers Program

A pilot program to allow buskers and street performers within the Village of Lumby has been approved by Council for one year. This will allow the Village to implement a busker / street performer program without the requirement of amending any of its bylaws, such as the Good Neighbour Bylaw, Business Licence Bylaw and the MTI Bylaw. A pilot program allows the Village to monitor the program, review and assess any concerns or challenges, and assess the preferred locations for the program. Climate Action Leadership

Lumby WasteWater Treatment Plant Maintenance

Please be advised that, as part of maintenance of the Village of Lumby Wastewater Treatment Facility, Lagoon #1 will be put offline, drained and cleaned. As a result, residents may detect an abnormally strong odour resulting of the maintenance. The work is to scheduled to last from April 2 – April 12, 2024. Continued operations of the wastewater system will not be affected. The Village of Lumby apologizes for any inconvenience that may arise.

The Special Public Avalanche Warning issued last week and that was supposed to expire today, has been extended until Mar 7. Feb 29, 2024, Revelstoke BC: Avalanche Canada, in partnership with Parks Canada, Kananaskis Country, and the Province of BC is issuing a Special Public Avalanche Warning for recreational backcountry users across most of BC’s and Alberta’s forecast regions. Draft Capital Plan

On November 20 2023, Mayor and Council adopted the Draft Capital Budget presented by the Village's finance department. The presentation provided information about upcoming projects to seek direction before the Financial Budgeting process begins. The draft includes capital projects which can be funded in a variety of ways including grants, taxation, savings, and borrowing. Capital Projects may be subject to change.  The capital budget includes much needed new and updated infrastructure, as well as additions to our community amenities that will add value to the lives of our residents and visitors. Council Adopts 2024 Strategic Plan

On October 24th and 25th, Council and senior staff met to reflect on strategic priority progress in 2023 and identify areas for attention in 2023/24 and beyond. The process included a community input session on October 24th which was attended by 60 representatives of organizations within Lumby and area. This session engaged the community and elected officials in discussions around the themes of Economy, Environment, Social, Infrastructure and Governance. Wildfire Risk Reduction Works – Pile Burning Notification

The Monashee Community Forest (MCF) plans to burn approximately 200 piles of wood debris northwest of the village of Lumby. The burn is scheduled to begin toward the end of November and will require 2-3 days to complete. Smoke, and potentially flames, will be visible from Lumby and the surrounding area. Burning will only occur if weather conditions are suitable to allow smoke to dissipate. The piles being burnt are associated with a wildfire risk reduction project implemented by the MCF in 2021.
