Wayfinding Sign Strategy Project - UPDATE
A public information meeting is being held Wednesday April 8, 2015 at the Community Centre from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Local facilities, businesses, residents, and visitors are set to benefit from The Village of Lumby’s review of its community signage. The review is looking at existing directional signage for possible improvements, consolidation, and additions that will make finding amenities such as parks, recreation facilities, and tourist services easier to find.
Village of Lumby Council has recognized the need for a more consistent and comprehensive signage program and in its recent strategic planning session, identified a new way-finding system as one of its top priorities.
“With recent new additions to our community such as the spray park and an outdoor exercise equipment, this is a perfect time to review all of our directional signage to ensure that residents and visitors continue to have a positive experience in our community,” said Mayor Kevin Acton who adds, “Lumby has many valuable resources for travellers, residents and prospective new local business owners, and we want to make sure people know about them and where to find them.”
The review process includes community feedback through telephone interviews and three focus group sessions with business and community organizations, and a public survey that are designed to assess the need, importance, and options for community signage including gateway signs and directional signs which point the way to community facilities and amenities.
The results of the community consultation and recommendations will be presented to Village Council in mid-March 2015 by Pinnacle Communications & Media Inc who has been contracted to facilitate the project. While the initiative is focused on directional signage within the town limits, comments related to community branding, onsite building or location signage such as for parks or trails, interpretive signs, and highway signage may also be submitted through the survey for additional information and consideration.
The online survey is now closed - thank you to everyone who took the time to provide their input!
A report from the consultant with findings and recommendations was presented to Council at the March 16, 2015 Regular Council meeting. To view the report click here.
Council has set a public information session on Village signage for Wednesday April 8, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the White Valley Community Centre.
At the May 4, 2015 Regular Meeting, Council received the report from the consultant on the Village of Lumby Signage Plan. Consultant Lorelei Fiset also presented her findings from the recent open house information session.
The next steps are for staff to bring back a report to Council identifying an implementation plan based on priorities and costing of the signage plan.
