Lumby Acquires Property

LUMBY – The Village of Lumby is excited to announce that it has finalized the acquisition of 84.2 acres of property within its municipal boundaries located along its western entrance. The property is comprised of approximately 73 acres of Country Residential and 11 of Industrial, with Duteau Creek running the length of the property. Approximately 2/3 of the land is within the Agricultural Land Reserve. The primary purpose of the acquisition will be for flood mitigation, with secondary objectives including preservation of the natural beauty of the Lumby entranceway and other community opportunities. The purchase price of the property was $720,000, which was funded though the Village’s land acquisition reserve and other internal borrowing.

“I’m thrilled we are able to make this announcement. This acquisition provides us with a significant opportunity to help protect the Village residents and businesses from potentially destructive flooding.”
- Mayor Kevin Acton

“Staff are pleased to have been able to help Council realize this important objective.”
- Tom Kadla, Chief Administrative Officer
