Council Adopts Affordable Housing Strategy

At the Regular Meeting of Council dated November 20, 2017 Council adopted the Village of Lumby Affordable Housing Strategy.

This project was funded through the BC Rural Dividend Fund.  Through the development of the Affordable Housing Strategy, CitySpaces (consultant hired by the Village) undertook the following approach:

  • Review background documents (community survey, indicator data including demographic characteristics, housing structural mix, market and non-market housing mix, affordable housing wait list data, age and condition of housing, occupancy/vacancy rates, housing prices and ownership affordability calculations, rental rates and rental affordability calculations).
  • Prepare Housing Indicator Report - Data + Analysis (analyze and summarize background information and key data into the Housing Indicators Report).
  • Undertake Key Informant Interviews (undertake a select number of key informant telephone interviews.  These include non-profit housing providers and social service agencies that offer programs to households in Lumby, as well as other relevant stakeholders).
  • Prepare Draft and Finalize Housing Needs & Gaps Report (based on the housing data and key informant interviews).
  • Community Engagement ( engage the community to share the findings from the Needs and Gaps Report, and work with the community to identify housing solutions appropriate to the local context).
  • Prepare and Finalize Housing Strategy Report and Implementation Plan (based on input obtained through community engagement and paired with housing best practice).
